Board Games Demystified: Press Your Luck

Those new to the board game hobby may be confused by terms, such as "cooperative," "dexterity," or "abstract" games. Here, at The Starting Player, our goal is to make gaming accessible to all. With that in mind, we're excited to introduce a new segment to our newsletter: "Board Games Demystified."

"Push Your Luck" games involve players completing a single action as many times as they choose in an effort to gain as much reward as possible ... all at the risk of losing everything.

For example, you may roll as many dice as you want, collect as many cards as you'd like, or go as far down a path as you choose. The idea is to get as much as you can, and get out before you go bust.

Examples of some Push Your Luck games include:
  • Incan Gold
  • Loot N Run
  • Celestia
  • King of Tokyo
  • Port Royal
  • Zombie Dice
Be sure to look for these and other Push Your Luck games wherever we pop up. In the meantime, if you try a new Push Your Luck game, or have one you'd like to recommend to our readers, be sure to let us know.
